The Cyberathlete Professional League today announced some significant changes to its amateur division, known as the Cyberathlete Amateur League or CAL. CAL is the fastest growing online computer gaming leagues in the world, with over 250,000 registered members and year-round online tournaments. The official website for CAL is located at www.caleague.com
Changes:
I. New Structure
CAL will now become an integrated division of CPL and the CPL top management structure will also manage the operation of CAL. Therefore, CAL’s president is now Angel Munoz and the commissioner is Frank Nuccio. All sponsorship programs and advertising opportunities are now also managed by the CPL.
II. New Division
The CPL has created a new division for Counter-Strike tournaments in CAL. This new division, named “Counter-Strike Premier” will give aspiring teams an opportunity to receive well-deserved attention, and the opportunity for top teams to receive merchandise prizes, provided by the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition.
III. Invite Changes
The next season for the “Counter-Strike Invite” tournaments will have the following changes:
a. The top two winning teams of CAL Counter-Strike Invite will receive $2,500 each to travel to the CPL Summer 2004 Extreme Championships, sponsored by the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition.
b. The final match between these two teams will take place on Wednesday, July 28, 2003 at the Summer 2004 Event’s Intel Pavilion. The Intel Pavilion will have a large stage area for final tournament matches
c. The winners of the final match will also receive merchandise prizes, provided by the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition.
IV. Season Changes
The length of the season for “Counter-Strike Invite” will now last five months, with the final match taking place at the Summer 2004 Extreme Championships. A season break will take place in mid-April and an all star-game will also be held that month. If any CS Invite teams leave the division or disband during the season, CS premier teams will be invited to join CAL CS Invite.
V. Sponsorship
The Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition has become the first official sponsor of the Cyberathlete Amateur League, and the exclusive sponsorships of CAL Invite and Premier are the first of its kind for any US online gamer’s league.
We ask that the online gaming community explore the official website for the Intel® Pentium® 4 HT Extreme Edition and support the companies that are helping CPL with these first initiatives to offer more professional online competitions at CAL.
